Here is a brief summary of the liver’s functions, but remember there are more than 500 functions: 1-processing digested food from the intestine, 2-controlling levels of fats, amino acids and glucose in the blood, 3-clearing the blood of infections, 4-neutralises and destroys toxins 5-produces bile, 6-storing iron, vitamins and other chemicals, 7-breaks down food and turns it into energy, 8-manufactures, breaks down and regulates hormones, 9-making enzymes and proteins.

What does the liver secrete?
The liver cells secrete Blie (an alkaline greenish-yellow liquid containing bile pigments and bile salts which give the bile its colour). It does not contain any enzymes (biological catalysts made of protein),so it cannot digest food but it aids in the digestion of fats.Bile pigments are waste products and are removed with the faeces.
